Responsibilities

What Ambassadors Do

Watch Your Neighbourhood

Keep an eye on development applications, demolition permits, and bylaw changes in your area. Report anything that could affect a heritage property.

Document & Photograph

Photograph heritage buildings in your community — facades, details, streetscapes. Your photos help build the permanent visual record of Langley's built heritage.

Engage Your Neighbours

Share Heritage Watch updates with friends, family, and local groups. Help residents understand what's at stake and how to participate in the process.

Attend Council Meetings

Show up at Township of Langley or City of Langley council meetings when heritage matters are on the agenda. Your presence sends a message. Check our council meeting calendar for upcoming dates.

Adopt-A-Street

Adopt your street and become its community champion. Share photos, post neighbourhood announcements, and invite neighbours to join you. No age limit — any resident can adopt their street. View the Fort Langley street map →

File Complaints & Requests

When you spot a potential violation or an unprotected property, we'll help you navigate the formal complaint and heritage designation request processes.

Inside the Portal

Ambassador Dashboard & Bulletin Board

This is your space — and your community needs your voice. As an ambassador, you get access to a private portal built around what matters most to you: the streets you walk, the buildings you love, and the decisions that shape the place you call home. Pick up a photo task on your lunch break, share a petition in two minutes, or dig into council records when you have an afternoon to spare. There's no minimum commitment and no pressure — just real people doing small things that add up to something big. Be the voice of your community.

Photo Tasks

A running list of heritage buildings and sites that need to be photographed — maybe a building that hasn't been documented in years, a seasonal shot of a main street, or a detail that matters for a current designation application. Pick one that's near you, head out when you have an hour, and upload what you find. Every photo adds to a permanent archive.

Research Queue

A list of open research questions: the date a building was constructed, the name of the original owner, whether a property has ever been evaluated for heritage designation, what happened at last month's council meeting. If you enjoy digging through archives, old newspapers, or municipal records, this is where you'll find something to sink your teeth into. Claim a task, do the research at your own pace, and post what you find.

Petition Hub

All active Heritage Watch petitions in one place — sign the ones that resonate with you, share them with your network, and track how many signatures each one has gathered. Even a single share can bring in dozens of new signatories. This is the easiest way to make a tangible difference without leaving your couch.

Reporter Dispatches

Upcoming council meetings, public hearings, and community events that need someone to attend and report back. If you're a Roving Reporter, you'll see a queue of events worth covering. Claim one, show up (or tune in online), write a short plain-language summary, and post it. Your dispatch helps the whole community stay informed — even the people who couldn't make it.

A note on availability and pace: There is no minimum commitment. Some ambassadors contribute every week; others check in once a month when something catches their eye. The portal is designed so that you can always find something that matches your current availability — whether that's a five-minute petition share or an afternoon of archival research. The most important thing is that you're here, and that you care. Everything else follows from that.
